Copy Editing

In 2024 God sent me several new writers who needed help editing their books. I realized I love editing. I also love working with new writers. I love the energy and enthusiasm as a writer pushes the publish button on his or her work and becomes an author.

Do you have a manuscript ready to edit? It can be fiction or non-fiction, memoir, devotional, Bible study. If you’ve never published a long work before, I’d love to talk to you about seeing your work completed. We can work through copy editing, proofreading, even basic formatting for paperback/hardback and ebooks.

Because I deal with new writers, I am committed to keeping costs low. I tend to survey the going rates and cut them in half. (My rate as of 10/2024 is 1.2 cents per word.) Putting out a first book is scary and takes bravery, and I want to help without putting roadblocks in your way.

What are the forms of editing?

  • Developmental editing: A developmental editor helps the writer organize the storyline or content. This is big picture editing and happens before or during the drafting stage. I can do this in a limited capacity, and it costs more than the going rate.
  • Copy editing: This is the paragraph/sentence level edit. I make sure the manuscript flows, consider specific words, and find logic or narrative issues. I am careful to respect and preserve each writer’s personality, voice, and tone.
  • Proofreading: The final edit, which can happen in tandem with copy editing, fixes punctuation and grammar, putting a final shine on a work.
