Second Son
Boys of Summer Book Ten

It’s hard to be the little brother.
Tony’s big brother is Shawn Carpenter. Shawn builds low-income housing, and in local Christian circles he’s a rock star. Having a rock star for a big brother is exhausting, and high school student Tony is tired of living in his brother’s shadow. He wants to be his own person, but in truth he’s not doing that well as his own person. His family loves him but forgets he exists, and the way he’s messing up his life, that might not be such a bad thing.
The new girl across the street knows he exists, but she has a few issues that make both of them crazy. And his best friend gets Tony into trouble that could shoot down his plans for senior year, college, and the rest of his life, so maybe in that relationship he would rather be forgotten.
Through the events surrounding a wedding, he will learn that it’s possible for him to climb out of Shawn’s shadow and be the man God wants him to be, and that’s more important than who he is in anyone else’s eyes.
Adventure, danger, romance… Welcome to the Boys of Summer, a contemporary Christian series for anyone who appreciates the challenges of stepping into adulthood.
Jill's Notes
- I tend to idealize Shawn Carpenter, the hero of my very first novel. It was good to view him through his little brother’s eyes, flawed and human.
- Two big weddings happen a few days apart in the Boys of Summer/Girls Aglow universe. This is the first. The second is the setting of Girls Aglow’s Snapshot. Both grooms are from the Boys of Summer series.
- Tony and Angie play a bit role in the first Casa Flanigan book, The Walkabout Scribe.
- For this book I studied robotics. Pretty sure I will never be building robots.
- This is the only Boys of Summer hero and heroine in high school.
- Because of the wedding in this book (I won’t tell you who…), I got to bring together all the previous characters. I had so much fun. Then I did it again in the Girls Aglow wedding.
