Who is Jake Branigan?

Everyone knows Jake Branigan. He’s the pastor’s kid. His entire life had been fodder for lessons from the pulpit, and he was okay with that. He doesn’t have any secrets to hide, and he has a lot of respect for his dad’s job.

Except his dad had screwed up, and suddenly his fishbowl existence isn’t a great place to be. He has a new life, new friends, and yet he’s lost his identity. What is the pastor’s kid when his dad is no longer the pastor? How does a guy come to grips with his hero falling splat and taking down his whole family with him? Where does family obligation end and his own life begin?

Turns out God has a lot of answers to those questions, but first Jake has to have the sense to ask them. Sense had never been his forte, but maybe that was the big lesson, how to stand alone and then let people in to help figure out the real Jake Branigan. Maybe he’s worth knowing all on his own.

Adventure, danger, romance…  Welcome to the Boys of Summer, a contemporary Christian series for teens and anyone who appreciates the challenges of stepping into adulthood.

Jill's Notes

  • It’s time for another roommate change in the guys’ apartment. I didn’t consider this series to be a long story about an apartment and its renters, but maybe it is.
  • I liked the contrast between street-smart Stephen and innocent Jake.
  • The scene with the possum skeleton is one of my favorite scenes of all times. Read it to see. And yes, I did once find and try to reassemble a possum skeleton. I was a homeschool mom. We do things like that.
  • I don’t usually write love triangles, but I did a gentle version here. But don’t worry. The ‘loser’ makes her way to St. Ninian’s and finds the love of her life. My characters tend to escape their series.
